Costa Rican Red-rump

A hardy Central American red-rumped ground-dweller. An opportunistic burrower that, once it reaches about 3 inches, stays out in the open and makes a good display animal. Keep on 4-5 inches of firm peat/coco/vermiculite substrate; wet one half near the water dish and let it dry out to give a moisture gradient. Docile, with no notable hair-kicking or threat displays reported, but a fast mover — intermediate is a conservative rating. New World: urticating hairs, non-medically-significant venom.
