Overview

**King Baboon** — One of the largest and most formidable African tarantulas. An obligate burrower that will construct elaborate tunnel systems given deep enough substrate (8–10 inches minimum). Extremely defensive — will rear up, stridulate (producing a loud hissing sound by rubbing its legs), and bite without hesitation. Large fangs that can deliver a very painful bite even if not medically significant. Keep dry — comes from the semi-arid scrublands of East Africa. Slow grower but very long-lived. The stridulation sound alone makes this an impressive display animal. Experts only.
