Magnacrus taynguyenensis
Magnacrus • Theraphosidae
Magnacrus taynguyenensis was described in October 2025 from the Central Highlands of Vietnam, in a new genus that also holds M. tongmianensis. Hobbyists previously knew it as Ornithoctoninae sp. 'Highland' and sp. 'Highland 2'. Because the name is so new, there are no care sheets we could verify. A dealer describes a stout, robust, fossorial spider and suspects it prefers cooler conditions because it comes from the highlands, but says there isn't much information yet. As an Old World ornithoctonine it has no urticating hairs, and it is sensible to treat it with the caution you would give any Old World burrower. We have left temperature, humidity, substrate depth and feeding figures blank because no source we read gave them. If you keep one, your own records are real data worth sharing.
