Overview

**Dictator Baboon Tarantula** — A larger Harpactira species with an imposing appearance and appropriately intimidating name. Brown and black with a distinctive pattern on the carapace. One of the larger South African fossorial baboon spiders in the hobby.

⚠️ OLD WORLD SPECIES: No urticating hairs; potent venom. Treat with full Old World respect.

Keep conditions dry with a water dish. Provide 4-5 inches of compactable substrate for burrowing. A confirmed deep burrower that may go weeks without being visible. Medium growth rate for the genus — faster than H. pulchripes. Becoming more available in the hobby through captive breeding. A solid intermediate Old World choice for keepers ready to move beyond the classic baboon spiders.
