Burmese Chocolate Brown Tarantula

Haplopelma vonwirthi

Overview

Haplopelma vonwirthi is an Asian fossorial from Myanmar's tropical forests. Like other Haplopelma, they are deep obligate burrowers rarely seen above ground. Provide 6-8 inches of moist, packable substrate throughout. Unlike arid OW species, this genus requires consistently humid substrate — keep it damp but not saturated. They are extremely defensive and will bite rapidly; always use long tongs and a catch cup for maintenance. Venom is medically significant. They are rarely available in the hobby; ensure specimens are legally sourced and captive bred when possible. Care is broadly similar to C. lividus.
