Pumpkin Patch Tarantula (Small Form)

Hapalopus sp. 'Colombia Small'

HapalopusTheraphosidae

intermediate

Overview

Hapalopus sp. 'Colombia Small' is the smaller of the two undescribed 'Pumpkin Patch' forms traded in the hobby (the other being 'Colombia Large'). Adults max out around 1.5-2 inches, making them one of the smallest tarantulas commonly kept. Despite their tiny size, they are voracious feeders with a fast metabolism and need more frequent meals than larger species. Their orange-and-black patterning is stunning. They are prolific webbers and will create elaborate funnel webs in the enclosure. Keep substrate slightly moist and maintain a small water dish — a bottle cap works well. They are fast and defensive; use care when maintaining their enclosure. Note: this species has not been formally described and 'Colombia Small' is a trade name.
