Grammostola anthracina
Grammostola • Theraphosidae
Grammostola anthracina is an all-brown tarantula from Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina, and almost nothing has been published on keeping it. Its naming has been messy: C. L. Koch described it in 1842 as Mygale anthracina, it later sat in Eurypelma and Avicularia, and a 2011 re-examination of the holotype placed it in Grammostola. Older names include Eurypelma anthracinum and Phrixotrichus mollicomus. Because it is in Grammostola, it has urticating hairs on the abdomen. Keepers on Arachnoboards say to keep it like any other Grammostola, which are terrestrial, but no one in those threads gave species-specific temperatures, humidity, substrate or feeding schedules. We have not filled those fields rather than guess. Ask your seller what they have used, and compare with better-documented Grammostola such as G. pulchra.
